Working With Grad ND Filters

March 4, 2019 by Jim Brompton Leave a Comment

For me, I prefer to use filters on the lens. I realize in Photoshop or Lightroom you can use the digital filter. I am a believer that the filter on the lens does a better job. When I instruct photography classes I always mention what I learned years ago about stacking filters. (They said to never do it) Man were they wrong. I always stack them sometimes as many as 4. A polarizer, 2 grad ND’s at different angles and 1 ND. Not only does it produce a better file it allows control of the light on the top or bottom of the image depending on the situation. Give it a try but remember your light meter in the camera will not likely work.
